So, another Wednesday, another music list. This time the violin concerto of Tchaikovsky. He wrote one violin concerto. It is his Opus 35 work, written in D major.
The instrumentation for this concerto is: The concerto is scored for solo violin, two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets in A and B-flat, two bassoons, four horns in F, two trumpets in D, timpani, and strings.
The piece is in three movements:
Allegro moderato (D major)
Canzonetta: Andante (G minor)
Finale: Allegro vivacissimo (D major)
The second and third movements are played attacca (immediately after the other movement), with no break between them.
I am fond of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto. It is not my favourite, but I love the concerto very much. I remember an evening near Christmas. The Christmas tree stood on the refrigerator with a lot of lights. We were having dinner at home and there were lots of candles on the table. We - my sister and I - had a lovely conversation about which is our favourite violin concerto. This violin concerto came up to her. She played a CD and this concerto was played (on this CD) by Maxim Vengerov. Since then, I became a fan.
There are so many recordings of this violin concerto. A lot of violinists record this violin concerto. It seems that this must be recorded by every violinist.
